The Boys' Brigade – 7th Singapore Coy

My name is Jonathan and this is my third year in BB. I’m glad that God has given me the privilege of joining such an interesting and purposeful CCA. At first, I had my doubts, but once I got started, I realized that there was more to BB than just drills. In my time with BB, there were many fun activities such as kayaking, rock climbing and community services when we learn many life skills. We even had a lasergun activity which is like playing Counter Strike in real life.

It doesn’t just stop here. In the past two years, we visited Malaysia twice. The first was a leisure trip to Desaru, where we had the chance to bond as a company. The second was a CIP trip to Pahang.

God is working in The Boys’ Brigade. It is a Christian organization and all its activities are undergirded by prayer. One thing that especially moves me is the dedication of the volunteer officers. They are old boys of the BB who help run the activities every week. They bless the BB boys by giving their time and devotion. Their work is 100 percent voluntary and from the heart.

One occasion that I was struck by the officers’ dedication was during a training camp. They would stay in school to wait for us to return from our long hikes that were part of the camps. Often it would be about 3am in the morning when we got back. Only then would the officers return home and go back to work the next morning. I am so blessed to be in this company.

I joined the BB at first, thinking that i would be able to get my CCA points. Being a BB member for 3 years, this mindset has changed. It has instead given me many good friends that i can rely on. I also will get my CCA points, but i have realized this is secondary. What is important is building bonds and making friends for life. My life has been thoroughly blessed by the many friends I have made through BB.
